To make them, the seasoned trunk of a beech tree was used, sawn into thin strips (from 0,5 cm to 2 cm), depending on the use that was to be made of it. The strip was bent until it became a circle. A perforated sheet metal or mesh was fixed to the bottom. They were used, in the farmyard, tied to a plant - think of an upside-down umbrella with lots of little holes - for tanning cereals or to remove the seeds of weeds from the good ones.
